Saxon Leib Grenadier Garde

As promised yesterday, here are a few pics of the Saxon Leib Grenadier Garde (LOD ARW British Grenadiers) the most prestigious Saxon infantry regiment of the time.

It was in the 1st division, brigaded under Hardtitzsch (along with the Bose Grenadier battalion and Egidy’s 2nd Schutzen battalion).  It’s brigade was called on to attack Wagram village late in the evening of July 5th.  Not knowing that fellow white-coated Saxons were already in the village, the brigade fired into their backs, thinking them white-coated Austrians. This broke the Saxons in the village, causing them to run out of the village, toward Hartitzsch’s men, who were horrified at what they had done to their countrymen, and swept away by their rout, and the Austrians counter attack.

See my earlier post on the IX Corps to see more pics of these along with all my Saxon units.

Cheers

New Haul part 2: EBay Italeri Hussars

Forgot to post the shipment I received from Ebay; 1 set Italeri French Hussars (8 men & horses).

I already have 40 of these excellent figures, all of which are in one of my Austrian Hussar regiments of VI Korps (the other Hussar Regiment in that Korps is Timpo Prussian Hussars in grey).

But I think I need to build out my under strength French 8th Hussar Regiment, which before this purchase was composed of mostly (expensive & fragile) Dulcop Hussars, and a few Reamsa Hussars.  These are all in a similar blue as the Italeri Husssars,  so I could use 2 sets of Italeri Hussars as the second  division (complemented by a couple extra Dulcop Hussar buglers).

It’s actually interesting that there was only 1 French hussar regiment in the IV Corps, which was also the only French hussar unit on their entire left-of center flank, and only 4 French hussar regiments in total at Wagram (out of 10 total regiments in the French army at this time).  I assume most of the others were in Spain at the time.

Cheers

Happy New Year & new haul!

 Happy New Year everyone!

Family holidays and work have kept me away from my hobby, but wanted to share my latest purchases from Michigan Toy Solider Co. and EBay.  Mich Toy was running a sale (and they are nice people who are great to do business with; highly recommended!)

First up is 10 more boxes of Hat’s new Austrian German command set.  This makes 25 boxes of these, estimate I need about 16 more boxes to lead my German Fusiliers & Grenadiers (and Hungarian fusiliers & grenadiers) as well as contributing command figures to Grenzer, Jager & Landwehr battalions.

Next up; 1 set of LOD American Revolutionary War (ARW) British Grenadiers (which I use as Saxon Lieb Grenadier guard).   These figures are great!  Very detailed and highly articulated.  I’ll post a pic of the whole battalion soon.

Finally; I bought LOD ARW Tory Cav as an experiment, and for possible use as Bavarian chevaulegers.  What do you think?

Cheers!

Ideas for favorite unique figure poses

In reorganizing many of my various units some things this hobby come into focus.  My various units’ figures come a variety of different sets...
