Christmas gifts; new books!

Hope you all had a nice Christmas with your families.

I received the following books as gifts;

Battalion level organization

This is supported by detailed organization of battalion organization including composition and formation.

I inventory my units/figures by type of figures (i.e. Hat French Chasseurs, Armies in Plastic French infantry) and include for each unit the figures included and where they belong in the formation by line.  

Most French battalions are between 46 to 55 figures, of which 42 to 51 are “troops” and 4 or 5 are “command” (drummer, NCO, officer, drummer & flag).

Formations;

Fire line;  line = 21 to 24 figures X at least 2 lines (depending on unit size) 

Column; lines = 10 to 12 figures , depth depends on size of unit but always at least 4 lines deep.

So a typical French fire battalion of 46 total =

42 troops organized as;

base of 10 Stand fire figures

Base of 11 Stand fire figures

Base of 10 reload figures

Base of 11 reload figures

Command; NCO, officer & 2 drummers

The stand fire bases are side by side when in fire line, one behind the other when in Column, same with reload bases.

Here is my Hat Line and Hat light battalion org;

I’ve reorganized my units at the battalion, brigade, Division and Corps level.  That is; from the placement of each figure in each line of each battalion, on up to the composition and formation of battalions in each brigade, Division and Corps.

Apologies again for lack of new posts.  I have done a lot of reorganization of units and plan to post the updated unit organizations over the next 2 weeks while I am upstate for Christmas.

So what does it all mean?

In the coming days I plan to show the results of my unit reorganization and explain in the context of my battalion basing plan.

I have to say I am very disappointed that there are no signs of the Hat Austrian Action and March sets becoming available in October as I originally expected… disappointed is a huge understatement… after waiting now over 12 years it is almost heartbreaking.

Where do we go from here?  We hope for the best from Hat, because we realize global supply chain issues are very real challenges. But at the same time I am exploring other ideas.  Who knows; maybe we go high tech and commission 3D printer designs!  I do not want my dream to die because of commercial apathy.

So my friends, any thoughts or ideas?

 Hi everyone;  

So sorry that I haven’t posted in a while (actually I’m really not as the reason I’ve been absent has been some time off in the sun, including 2 weeks in Spain, and otherwise having an active life).  

I have been working on reorganizing my battalions in consideration of how they will be based (and therefore the formations that will be possible when gaming.

More in that coming (as I’ve done most of the reorg,  and will share with you soon), but in the interests of providing some evidence I haven’t forgotten about this hobby; here are some pics of 3 of my 4 current Austrian Grenadier battalions (the firing units). Sorry I don’t have room on the table to include the command figures (which are all from Hat).
